Sharon is 9-1 against Slippery Rock since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Tigers will challenge the Rockets at 4:00 p.m. Sharon is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games.
Sharon came out on top against Jefferson Area on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Tigers blew past the Falcons 9-1. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won ten games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Madelyn Vogan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Alauna Wilson was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season. Marley Bundrant was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
Sharon lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Hickory hit Slippery Rock with a nine-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rockets came up short against the Hornets, falling 10-0. The Rockets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Slippery Rock saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Savannah Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Sharon pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Slippery Rock, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Slippery Rock's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sharon has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Slippery Rock, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Sharon's sizable advantage in that area, the Rockets will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sharon took their win against Slippery Rock in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
