The Reavis Rams will challenge the Oak Lawn Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Reavis comes in on seven and Oak Lawn on six.
Reavis came out on top against Lemont on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Rams took their matchup against the Lemont HS 8-4.
The team relied heavily on Jose Gonzalez, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Anthony Perez, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Reavis hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while Oak Lawn put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Hancock. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Spartans have won 15 contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Eli Kulpinski tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Peyton Melnik was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Jackson Hilger was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Oak Lawn's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-11. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Reavis, their record is now 22-9.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Reavis has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like Oak Lawn struggles in that department as they've averaged .472. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Reavis beat Oak Lawn 3-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
