Softball Recap: Saucon Valley Takes a Loss

If Saucon Valley was riding high fresh off their 9-0 takedown of Jim Thorpe on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers lost 11-1 to the Notre Dame-Green Pond Crusaders on Friday. The Panthers have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Matty Seyfried spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and eight unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ryan Gall was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Makayla Guerrero also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Saucon Valley's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Notre Dame-Green Pond, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2.

Coming up, Saucon Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Lehighton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Notre Dame-Green Pond, they have already played their next game, a 16-6 win against Pen Argyl on the 18th.
