The Freeburg Midgets will head out on the road to square off against the Highland Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Freeburg has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Saturday, it was close, but Freeburg sidestepped O'Fallon for an 8-7 win. The victory continues a trend for the Midgets in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Olivia Joseph, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Freeburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Highland fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against O'Fallon on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered against the Panthers since May 18, 2019.
Kaitlyn Wilson spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Holly Sexton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Becker, who went 3-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Freeburg pushed their record up to 1-3 with the win, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Highland, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Freeburg was able to grind out a solid win over Highland when the teams last played back in March of 2023, winning 6-1. Does Freeburg have another victory up their sleeve, or will Highland turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
