Volleyball Game Preview: Newport Wildcats vs. Walton-Verona Bearcats

The Newport Wildcats will head out to challenge the Walton-Verona Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

It was a proper cat-fight when Newport faced off against Ludlow on Tuesday. The Wildcats fell 2-0 to the Panthers. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

Meanwhile, Walton-Verona lost 3-0 to Grant County on Thursday. The Bearcats haven't had much luck with the Braves recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

While Walton-Verona was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the third set. The final score came out to 25-17, 25-15, 25-22.

Walton-Verona's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-8. As for Newport, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-16.

Newport couldn't quite get it done against Walton-Verona when the teams last played back in October of 2023 as they fell 2-0. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
