Basketball Recap: Downey Takes a Loss

Downey was the 57-55 winner over Warren when they last played one another on January 3rd, but their luck changed this time around. The Downey Vikings were just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 58-57 to the Warren Bears. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Downey lost, don't look at Tyler Harris. Despite the final result, he posted 21 points and seven rebounds. Harris is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 19 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Earl Santos, who went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points.

Leading Warren to victory were Lucas Osuna and King Johnson. Osuna almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards, while Johnson went 6 for 10 on his way to 15 points. Those nine rebounds gave Osuna a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jorge Mota, who put up eight points along with five boards and three steals.

Downey's defeat dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Warren, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-10.

Downey will square off against Norwalk at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Warren, they will take on Bellflower at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bellflower will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something Warren surely won't give up without a fight.
