Cardinal Gibbons took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Chapel Hill Tigers. Winning may never get old, but the Crusaders sure are getting used to it with their 23rd in a row dating back to last season.

Cardinal Gibbons had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21.

Mary Grace Gonyeau paced Cardinal Gibbons' offense, picking up 20 kills. Gonyeau got some help from Maddie Gonyeau and her 47 assists. Finally, Katherine Barbour and Amelia Bell kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked two attacks.

Despite the defeat, Chapel Hill saw an underclassman step up: freshman Leila Tooloee had four digs and two aces. Tooloee is also crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 13 every time she's taken the court this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Chapel Hill fell to 2-1.

Coming up, Cardinal Gibbons will welcome Green Level at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Chapel Hill, they will head out on the road to face off against Carrboro at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
