Football Preview: Deer Trail Eagles vs. Cheraw Wolverines        
        
		
             The Deer Trail Eagles will venture away from home to  take on the Cheraw Wolverines  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
 Last Friday, Deer Trail blew past Manzanola, posting  a  62-19 win at home. The  game marked the Eagles' most dominant  victory of the season.
 Deer Trail got their  win on the backs of several key players, but it was  Mursal Hussein out in front who picked up 97 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Hussein was even better on defense, forcing a fumble, making 16 total tackles (1.0 for loss),  and defending a pass. Another pass catcher making a difference was  Jayden Mingee, who picked up 113 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
 Deer Trail wouldn't let Manzanola keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as  Hussein,  Mo Hussein,  and  Raul Manriquez-Bustamante picked up one apiece. Manriquez-Bustamante also  passed for three  passing touchdowns, which is notable because Deer Trail is 3-1 when he posts  at  least  three  passing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise.
 Meanwhile,  winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better  (just ask Cheraw). They took their  matchup on the road  on Friday with ease, bagging  a  60-8 victory over Wiley.
 Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Cheraw was unstoppable on the ground and  finished the game with 272  rushing yards. That's the most  rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2023.
 The  win made it two in a row for Deer Trail and  bumps their season record up to 3-4. As for Cheraw, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 3-4.
 Deer Trail skirted past Cheraw  2-0 in their previous matchup  back in October of 2017. Does  Deer Trail have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cheraw turn the tables on them?  We'll have the answer soon enough.
