Basketball Recap: Hylton Takes a Loss

Hylton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 61-43 bruising from the Stafford Indians. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

Despite the loss, Hylton still got an impressive performance from Diamond Johnson, who went 8 for 20 en route to 19 points and seven rebounds. Kaniya Fobs was another key player, putting up six points.

Stafford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Olivia Ferguson led the charge by almost dropping a triple-double on 11 points, nine boards, and nine steals. Ferguson is becoming a predictor of Stafford's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 9-3 (and 1-2 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Annalise Mcconnell, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 16 points.

Hylton's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Stafford, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hylton has already played their next game (against Woodbridge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Stafford will be playing at home against North Stafford at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
