Baseball Preview: Bethlehem Eagles vs. Holy Cross Cougars
The Bethlehem Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Holy Cross Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Bethlehem let North Hardin stack five runs on them in the third inning on Tuesday but luckily Bethlehem prevailed anyway. The Eagles won by a run and slipped past the Trojans 9-8. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Holy Cross sidestepped John Hardin for a 5-4 victory.
Jacob Sykes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Noah Basham was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Holy Cross is undefeated when Basham posts three or more RBI, but 11-15 otherwise. Mason Lanham was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Bethlehem's win bumped their record up to 19-13. As for Holy Cross, their victory bumped their record up to 14-15.
Bethlehem came out on top in a nail-biter against Holy Cross in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
