The Baldwin County Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Daphne Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Baldwin County's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Wednesday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.
Baldwin County fell victim to Gulf Shores and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dolphins.
Baldwin County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryann Wallace, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Daphne earned a 10-5 win over Robertsdale on Tuesday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Victoria Moten made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Abby J Johnson was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-5. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cammerlyn Herport, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Daphne lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robertsdale didn't launched any home runs.
Daphne's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 27-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Baldwin County, their loss dropped their record down to 17-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Baldwin County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Daphne struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Baldwin County came out on top in a nail-biter against Daphne when the teams last played on Saturday, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
