The North Pocono Trojans will face off against the Bethlehem Catholic Hawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. North Pocono is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
North Pocono took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Valley View by a score of 9-5. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.
Josh Staples was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rory McAndrew, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jason Walsh, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bethlehem Catholic came up short against Nazareth Area on Friday and fell 8-4. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Bethlehem Catholic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joseph Casciano, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Caden Deegan was another, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
North Pocono pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bethlehem Catholic, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. North Pocono has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bethlehem Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
North Pocono suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Bethlehem Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Trojans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
