Baseball Game Preview: Morse Shipbuilders vs. Lincoln Academy Eagles

Morse is 9-1 against Lincoln Academy since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Shipbuilders will be playing at home against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Lincoln Academy took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Morse, who comes in off a win.

Morse took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Freeport, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Shipbuilders narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Falcons 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Shipbuilders have posted since May 22, 2024.

Oscar Nelson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jackson Murray was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Wells, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 4-1 to Camden Hills.

The win made it two in a row for Morse and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Lincoln Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Morse was able to grind out a solid win over Lincoln Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 6-1. Will the Shipbuilders repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
