Softball Recap: St. Joseph Takes a Loss

St. Joseph extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to seven on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They lost 16-0 to the Leechburg Blue Devils. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 5-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

As for Leechburg, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Considering they have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Leechburg's part, Addie Zanotto made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Zanotto was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danica Sopcak, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Holt, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Coincidentally, St. Joseph and Leechburg will both be playing Jeannette the next time they take the field. The Spartans will host the Jayhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Blue Devils will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
