Baseball Recap: Avenal Takes a Loss

Avenal was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They came up short against the Kings Christian Crusaders, falling 19-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Buccaneers have suffered against the Crusaders since March 1, 2016.

Miguel Paez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesus Zamora, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Even though they lost, Avenal always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Avenal's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Kings Christian, with the victory, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-7-1.

Looking ahead, Avenal will be playing in front of their home fans against Orosi at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Orosi has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.7 runs per game on average), something Avenal will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Kings Christian, they are taking a road trip to square off against Alpaugh at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
