Softball Game Preview: Mentor Cardinals vs. Medina Battling Bees

The Mentor Cardinals will square off against the Medina Battling Bees at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mentor will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

Mentor had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Shaker Heights on Wednesday. The Cardinals never let the Red Raiders get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Maggie Haydu was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ireland Rainey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Addison Belviso was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Mentor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shaker Heights only posted a batting average of .143.

Meanwhile, Medina came up short against Strongsville on Monday and fell 8-3. The Battling Bees have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Katie Rubino made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Mentor's win bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Medina, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
