Basketball Game Preview: Mellen Granite Diggers vs. Drummond Lumberjacks

The Mellen Granite Diggers will face off against the Drummond Lumberjacks at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Mellen has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight losses, while Drummond will come in with three straight wins.

Last Monday, Mellen was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 55-49 to Butternut.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Drummond against Bayfield on Tuesday as the squad secured a 53-23 victory. The Lumberjacks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Mellen's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-7. As for Drummond, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.

Mellen beat Drummond 47-37 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Will Mellen repeat their success, or does Drummond have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
