Recap: Lawrence County Cougars vs. Poplarville Hornets
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Lawrence County Cougars, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They suffered a rough 44-20 loss at the hands of the Hornets on Friday. Lawrence County has not had much luck with Poplarville recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Lawrence County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ahmad Hardy, who rushed for 181 yards while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Hardy hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kannon Cato, who rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
It was another big night for Tylan Keys, who rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per carry for Poplarville. Keys was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards. Lane Amacker was in the mix too, providing Poplarville with two touchdowns.
Lawrence County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Poplarville, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Lawrence County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Poplarville will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. Columbia is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
