Basketball Game Preview: Chaparral Cowboys vs. Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights

The Chaparral Cowboys will take on the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Chaparral: they have been struggling with ten straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Mater Academy East Las Vegas has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.

Chaparral is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They fell to Pinecrest Academy Cadence 48-43.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Trinity Leemon, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points. Another player making a difference was R'Breial Hicks, who posted 12 points.

Meanwhile, Mater Academy East Las Vegas' match on Wednesday was close up to the half, which is when they kicked things up a notch. They put the hurt on Moapa Valley with a sharp 49-26 victory. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 22 points or more this season.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas' win came from a few key players Chaparral will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Amija Macon, who put up 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Myla Faught, who earned 18 points.

Chaparral's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Chaparral took a serious blow against Mater Academy East Las Vegas in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 54-3. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Chaparral was down 37-2.
