Baseball Recap: Wilkes-Barre Triumphs

Wilkes-Barre hadn't done well against Wyoming Valley West recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Wolfpack never let the Spartans get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 last Tuesday.

Alex Hufford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Nathan Fritz was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Wilkes-Barre's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Wyoming Valley West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilkes-Barre will head out to face off against Greater Nanticoke Area at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.29 runs per game on average), something the Wolfpack will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wyoming Valley West, they are taking a road trip to take on Pittston at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
