Softball Recap: Leesburg Victorious

Leesburg hadn't done well against Lake Weir recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Leesburg walked away with a 5-1 win over Lake Weir. For the Yellow Jackets, this counts as revenge for the 12-5 victory the Hurricanes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Rachel Chiles made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cassidy Custer, who fired off three triples and one run while going 3-for-3. Those three triples gave her a new career-high. Hailey Toothaker also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Leesburg's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Lake Weir, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-10.

Leesburg will have a chance to go back-to-back against Lake Weir: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
