Softball Recap: Chowchilla Sets Scoring Season-High Against Caruthers

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chowchilla). They were the clear victors by a 21-4 margin over the Caruthers Blue Raiders on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tribe considering their two-run performance the match before.

Ava Diaz made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylee Vlot, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Hadley Ray was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Chowchilla always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Chowchilla's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Caruthers, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
