Softball Game Preview: Hawkins Hawks vs. Cumby Trojans

For the second straight game, Hawkins will face off against Cumby. Hawkins will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cumby at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Hawkins' favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Cumby has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.

If Hawkins beats Cumby with seven runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Hawkins beat Cumby on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-2.

Kalyn Ellison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Londyn Wilson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Taetum Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Hawkins is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. Cumby's loss dropped their record down to 2-10.
