Recap: Spanish Springs Cougars vs. Reed Raiders

After a string of five wins, the Spanish Springs Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They received a tough blow as they fell 59-41 to Reed. Spanish Springs was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Reed apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Spanish Springs lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tate Hummel. Despite the final result, he scored ten points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Hensley, who scored five points along with 11 rebounds.

Reed was led to victory by Dominic Williams and Tj Coulter. Williams scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, while Coulter scored 29 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Coulter is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. Giosue Gaeta was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

Spanish Springs' defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-12. As for Reed, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spanish Springs will take on Bishop Manogue at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Spanish Springs is on a eight-game streak of home wins, Bishop Manogue a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Reed, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Douglas at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. One thing working in Reed's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups.
