2A Conference 18 recap November 5, 2013
Northside extended the longest winning streak in 2A Conference 18 this week by beating North Brunswick, 19-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
East Duplin took down Dixon 67-19 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jarvious Scarborough threw for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns during the win.
The Panthers' dynamic duo of Scarborough and Mason Albertson proved to be unstoppable against the Bulldogs, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Raquail Murphy helped East Duplin's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 15 yards.
Timothy Bizzell was a key player and the best on defense this week as East Duplin beat Dixon. He forced 1 fumble.
Malik Simons was a passing and rushing force as Brandon Iseman's team lost to Battle Holley's team.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Scorpions' Randy Clark and Kevon Perkins have proven to be a lethal combination. Clark has thrown for 676 yards this season, while Perkins has 13 catches for 331 yards. Simons from the Bulldogs leads the league in rushing with 1,849 yards.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Dixon takes on Southwest Onslow. The Bulldogs' offense has recorded 273 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Stallions have permitted only 147 on the year.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when North Brunswick's Perkins goes up against the Panthers' Murphy.
Next week's game between Garry Bishop's team and East Duplin will feature a good passing match up as Clark will test his arm against Murphy's defensive ability.
A big matchup in 2A Conference 18 this week will be when Southwest Onslow takes on Dixon. At the moment, Phil Padgett's team is in first, while the Bulldogs are in fifth.
The Panthers made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,664 from 8,130. The improvement was the result of a 67-19 victory over Dixon last week.
