Basketball Recap: Union City Falls Despite Big Games from Luis Nieto and Trendon Spence

Union City suffered their closest loss since January 4, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Cambridge City Lincoln Golden Eagles by a score of 63-61. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Union City's loss came despite strong showings from Trendon Spence and Luis Nieto. Spence went 8 for 12 en route to 21 points, while Nieto went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points. Those 14 points gave Nieto a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Emerick, who posted ten points.

Cambridge City Lincoln's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Noah Patterson, who went 6 of 10 en route to 17 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Dustin Lunsford, who scored 16 points.

Union City is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8. As for Cambridge City Lincoln, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.

Union City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-47 win against Hagerstown on the 31st. Cambridge City Lincoln has also already played their next contest, a 71-48 loss against Northeastern on the 30th.
