Baseball Game Preview: St. Albans Red Dragons vs. Shady Spring Tigers

The St. Albans Red Dragons will face off against the Shady Spring Tigers at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Albans will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.

St. Albans is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let John Marshall get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. Give the Red Dragons' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's sixth straight shutout.

Meanwhile, Shady Spring faced Robert C. Byrd in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Tigers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Eagles 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since May 8th.

Tyler Wilhite was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Wilhite wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Spencer Morgan, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Shady Spring's victory bumped their record up to 28-7. As for St. Albans, their win bumped their record up to 30-5.

St. Albans got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April against Shady Spring by a conclusive 17-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
