Basketball Preview: Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes vs. Moriarty Pintos

Pojoaque Valley is 9-1 against the Pintos since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Moriarty Pintos at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Pojoaque Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Pojoaque Valley pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a tough 81-56 loss at the hands of Hope Christian. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (55), Pojoaque Valley still had to take the loss.

The losing side was boosted by Serafin Mendez, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 14 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 12 straight games. Another player making a difference was Nick Manzanares, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Moriarty's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight defeat. They fell to Taos 59-53.

Pojoaque Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Moriarty, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.

Pojoaque Valley beat the Pintos 55-48 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pojoaque Valley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
