Baseball Recap: Mooresville Falls Short of Center Grove in the Playoffs

Mooresville and Center Grove squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Mooresville had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 8-6. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Hudson DeVaughan was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nate Daley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Tyler Denny, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Mooresville's defeat dropped their record down to 16-12. As for Center Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 17 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season.

Mooresville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Center Grove, they will take on Perry Meridian at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
