It was a Battle of the Birds when St. Joseph's Prep challenged Conwell-Egan Catholic on Thursday. The Hawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles, sneaking past 3-1. That's more bragging rights for the Hawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Eddie Dingle looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, St. Joseph's Prep saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Robby Grasso, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Emilio Iannaccone also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

St. Joseph's Prep pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Conwell-Egan Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph's Prep will challenge Fordham Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hawks 3.4, the Rams 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Conwell-Egan Catholic, they will square off against Roman Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
