Softball Game Preview: Fort Dorchester Patriots vs. Ashley Ridge Swamp Foxes

Fort Dorchester is 0-7 against Ashley Ridge since April of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Patriots will head out to square off against the Swamp Foxes at 7:00 p.m. Fort Dorchester is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

Fort Dorchester is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: Berkeley, who was ranked ninth at the time (Fort Dorchester was ranked 13th). The Patriots fell 7-4 to the Stags on Thursday.

Mila Lorenzano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Fort Dorchester saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nadia Lorenzano, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Ashley Ridge got themselves on the board against West Ashley on Tuesday, but West Ashley never followed suit. They had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 1-0.

Fort Dorchester's defeat dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Ashley Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7-1.

Fort Dorchester suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Ashley Ridge in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
