Basketball Recap: Ashford Takes a Loss

Ashford lost against Geneva two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Ashford Yellowjackets were beaten by the Geneva Panthers 58-10. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while the Panthers are ranked 73rd).

Geneva's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaden Ward, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 14 points and five steals. Ward has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Erika Torres, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Ashford's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Geneva, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

Ashford does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Geneva, they will challenge Kinston at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Geneva sitting on six straight victories and Kinston on 22.
