Baseball Game Preview: Hanford West Huskies vs. Clovis North Broncos

Hanford West hasn't had much luck against Clovis North recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Hanford West will head out on the road to face off against Clovis North at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hanford West will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Hanford, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Hanford West walked away with a 5-1 victory over Hanford on Saturday. The Huskies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Alex Orozco made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kailin Hwang, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ben Ritchie, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Hanford West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hanford only posted an OBP of .154.

Meanwhile, Clovis North had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They beat the Golden Hawks by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 2-1.

Clovis North pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hanford West, their record now sits at 5-3.

Hanford West suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Clovis North in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can Hanford West avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
