Softball Game Preview: Rockford Auburn Knights vs. Hononegah Indians

Rockford Auburn hasn't had much luck against Hononegah recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Knights will square off against the Indians at 5:00 p.m. Rockford Auburn has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Rockford Auburn is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 22 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Harlem on Monday. They lost 12-1 to the Huskies.

Ava Johnson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Hononegah came out on top against Freeport on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Indians walked away with a 7-4 win over the Pretzels. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Pretzels recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Kaelyn Kelly was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Mackenzie Haas was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Rockford Auburn's defeat dropped their record down to 15-11. As for Hononegah, their win bumped their record up to 21-4.

Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Rockford Auburn has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Hononegah struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Rockford Auburn suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Hononegah in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
