Basketball Game Preview: Plainfield North Tigers vs. Downers Grove North Trojans

The Plainfield North Tigers will face off against the Downers Grove North Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Plainfield North has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Plainfield North faced off against Oswego on Tuesday. Everything went Plainfield North's way against Oswego as Plainfield North made off with a 62-40 victory. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Panthers are ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Downers Grove North had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 49-25 win. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 24 points or more this season.

Downers Grove North has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.7 points over those games. As for Plainfield North, their victory bumped their record up to 20-10.

Plainfield North suffered a grim 52-32 defeat to Downers Grove North when the teams last played back in January of 2020. Can Plainfield North avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
