Softball Game Preview: Kettle Run Cougars vs. Brentsville District Tigers

The Kettle Run Cougars will take on the Brentsville District Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Kettle Run has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Kettle Run is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Skyline. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by just one run.

Emerson Golden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Golden wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addy Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Brentsville District, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Everything went their way against Meridian on Thursday as they made off with a 10-0 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Kate Search was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Marvin, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Brentsville District has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Kettle Run, they pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Kettle Run skirted past Brentsville District 9-8 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
