The Pilgrim Academy Pioneers will head out on the road to square off against the King's Christian Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pilgrim Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
The Pilgrim Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 23 runs back in April, they were much more limited against Gloucester County Christian last Tuesday. They came up short against the Conquerors, falling 10-2. Pioneers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Conquerors since last Tuesday.
Moriah Parmer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Jayden Wolcott was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one double.
Meanwhile, King's Christian had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against The Christian Academy, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since May 14, 2024.
Bridet Levandoski made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lillian Logan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
King's Christian pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for The Pilgrim Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. The Pilgrim Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. However, it's not like King's Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .498. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
The Pilgrim Academy suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to King's Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Pioneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
