On Wednesday Vel Phillips Memorial's undefeated season almost came to an end. They never let the Sun Prairie West Wolves get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. Give the Spartans' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Kellen Mulcahy tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.

At the plate, Vel Phillips Memorial's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Blake Adams, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Adams hit this season.

Vel Phillips Memorial's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of four runs across that stretch. As for Sun Prairie West, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Looking ahead, Vel Phillips Memorial will challenge Janesville Parker at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sun Prairie West, they will take on Madison La Follette at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves are facing the Lancers at the right time seeing as the Lancers are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
