The Mendon Unity Mustangs will take on the Bushnell-Prairie City Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mendon Unity has three straight wins, Bushnell-Prairie City has 21 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Mendon Unity barely beat Biggsville West Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Heat with a sharp 14-3 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Mustangs have won five games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Simon Rabe was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Sawyer Allen, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Bushnell-Prairie City might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 17-1 to Canton, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Bushnell-Prairie City saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Palm, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Mendon Unity's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-20.
Bushnell-Prairie City's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Mendon Unity has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bushnell-Prairie City, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Mendon Unity keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
Mendon Unity was able to grind out a solid victory over Bushnell-Prairie City in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 15-12. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
