Football Game Preview: Western Wildcats vs. Stoneman Douglas Eagles

The Western Wildcats will square off against the Stoneman Douglas Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Western is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Piper get on the board and left with a 26-0 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Bengals recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Western didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Ashley Smith led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by herself.

Meanwhile, Stoneman Douglas put their dominant defense on display in the team's eighth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They blew past Monarch, posting a 28-0 victory. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Knights are ranked 177th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Western better keep an eye on Samantha Calavetta. She was instrumental in Stoneman Douglas' win, throwing for 217 yards and four touchdowns while completing 83.9% of her passes. Calavetta has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times she's played. Courtney Heymach helped Calavetta out on the ground, picking up 50 receiving yards and one score.

Stoneman Douglas' defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. Daria Boykin was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks herself.

Stoneman Douglas' win bumped their record up to 12-0. As for Western, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.
