Basketball Recap: Tosh Mouton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Point Arena over Stone Ridge Christian

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Point Arena couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 71-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stone Ridge Christian Knights on Wednesday. The Pirates have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tosh Mouton, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 15 boards. Mouton is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last 16 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Fernando Lopez, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Point Arena smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in 52 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Stone Ridge Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaiden Sahota led the charge by shooting 50% from the field on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Mccabe, who posted 13 points and eight rebounds.

Point Arena's loss dropped their record down to 21-5. As for Stone Ridge Christian, their victory was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-8.

Point Arena does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Stone Ridge Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 70-60 defeat against St. Bernard's on the 8th.
