Softball Recap: Chesterton Comes Up Short

After flying high against Portage on Tuesday, Chesterton came back down to earth. The Trojans took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Valparaiso Vikings on Wednesday. The Trojans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 14-6.

Hannah Florian spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chesterton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexia Franco, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Chesterton has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Valparaiso, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-13 record this season.

Chesterton has already played their next game, an 11-10 defeat against Highland on the 16th. As for Valparaiso, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-2 victory against Andrean on the 16th.
