Sullivan County has gone a perfect 10-0 against Bucktail recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Griffins will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bucks at 4:30 p.m. Sullivan County is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
Sullivan County came up short against Neumann Regional Academy on Tuesday, falling 27-11.
Sullivan County got a big performance out of Bruno Day, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Bagley, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Bucktail had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Columbia Montour Vo-Tech on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Bucks have beaten the Rams on their field since May 3, 2019.
Keller Friese was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Friese was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Bucktail is 2-1 when Friese posts two or more runs, but 0-6 otherwise.
Friese wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Hillyer, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Hillyer has posted since back in May of 2024. Another was Gary Whipp, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Sullivan County's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Bucktail, their win bumped their record up to 2-7.
Sullivan County was able to grind out a solid victory over Bucktail in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 7-3. Will the Griffins repeat their success, or do the Bucks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
