The Bishop Manogue Miners will face off against the McQueen Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop Manogue is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Bishop Manogue is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Galena, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Bishop Manogue was ranked eighth). The Miners took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Grizzlies on Thursday. The Miners' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Kaylee Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bishop Manogue saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sis King, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that King has hit this season.
Meanwhile, McQueen waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Huskies an 11-0 shutout. Surprisingly, this marked the Lancers' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Violet Moyao made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Moyao was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, McQueen let Vanessa Bein and Lilly Fanene run wild. Bein went 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles, while Fanene went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Fanene has posted since back in April. Ashlyn Guber was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.
McQueen hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 12 consecutive matchups.
Bishop Manogue's defeat dropped their record down to 20-9-1. As for McQueen, their win bumped their record up to 18-13.
McQueen's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Bishop Manogue has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game.
