Basketball Recap: Newton-Conover Red Devils vs. Maiden Blue Devils

The Newton-Conover Red Devils entered their tilt with the Maiden Blue Devils with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Newton-Conover managed a 56-51 win over the Blue Devils on Tuesday. The score was all tied up 22-22 at the break, but Newton-Conover was the better team in the second half.

Leading Newton-Conover to victory were Noah Cannon and Javier Lineberger. Cannon scored 18 points, while Lineberger scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Lineberger hasn't dropped below 17 points for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Cannon, who scored nine points.

Despite the loss, Maiden still got an impressive performance from Parker Pait, who scored 17 points. Pait is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Zion White was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Newton-Conover is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Maiden, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton-Conover will take on the Warriors at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in West Caldwell's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Maiden, they will head out on the road to take on the Cavaliers at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. East Burke will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 456th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 174th).
