Softball Recap: McClatchy Victorious

On Monday, the McClatchy Lions narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Union Mine Diamondbacks 5-3.

Madelyn Ogata spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Jeneyse Morales was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Cali Del Mazzio, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

McClatchy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Union Mine only posted a batting average of .250.

McClatchy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Union Mine, their loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McClatchy will square off against Bella Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Union Mine, they will take on Liberty Ranch at 4:00 p.m. on March 18th.
