Softball Recap: North Salinas Takes a Loss

North Salinas had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-12 to make it four. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Everett Alvarez Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on April 7th.

As for Everett Alvarez, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season. The win was familiar territory for they, who have now won five games in a row.

For Everett Alvarez's part, Dani Amendola spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. Amendola has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lizbeth Ramirez was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Alyssa Contreras was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one double.

North Salinas and Everett Alvarez could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Vikings will take on Monterey at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (489 vs. 73). Meanwhile, Everett Alvarez (ranked 288th) will meet Hollister (ranked 143rd) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
