Softball Recap: Hammond's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Hammond blew Cardinal Newman out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday Cardinal Newman got their revenge. The Skyhawks might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-3 to the Cardinals, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Skyhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Hammond saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ali Dorrington, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another was Eliza Spratlin, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

Hammond's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4. As for Cardinal Newman, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-3.

Looking ahead, Hammond will face off against First Baptist School at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hurricanes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.4 runs per game on average), something the Skyhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. Cardinal Newman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
