Bellevue West faced Elkhorn North in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Thunderbirds put the hurt on Elkhorn North with a sharp 7-1 victory. Considering the Thunderbirds have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Cole Madden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Grego, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last 11 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Kephart, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Bellevue West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elkhorn North only posted an OBP of .333.

Bellevue West's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Elkhorn North, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Looking ahead, Bellevue West will challenge Burke at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Elkhorn North, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Bennington at 5:00 p.m. on the 21st.
