Riverside-Durham is 2-8 against Jordan since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Pirates will head out to challenge the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Riverside-Durham's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Jordan's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Riverside-Durham nor East Chapel Hill made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Pirates skirted past the Wildcats 3-2. The victory was familiar territory for the Pirates, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Brayden Mottola spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Riverside-Durham saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Setji, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Setji has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Jordan got the win against Northern Durham on Tuesday by a conclusive 8-1. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on C.J. Carrow, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Beaulieu, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Riverside-Durham pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Jordan, their record is now 11-7.
Riverside-Durham was able to grind out a solid victory over Jordan when the teams last played last Tuesday, winning 9-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
